Congratulations and "How to be the New Girl (Guy)"

Another round of Congratulatory Shout Outs are in order today!!
Both Abby and Gina are on their way to starting their new gigs after accepting offers yesterday from a couple of great companies!
Abby was a referral and thanks to Heidi R and Laura P she was in the right place at the right time! She is starting as a Sales Ops Administrator at a very cool and growing tech company west of Boston.
Gina, who reached out to me based on a suggestion from her former co-worker, has successfully changed her career track by accepting an offer to be the Executive Assistant at a very successful Real Estate Investment firm downtown! Sometimes moving from a finance track to a career of an EA is not easy, but Gina impressed the firm enough with her skills and spirit that they took a chance on her... a chance I'm sure will pay off for both of them!
Congratulations, Gina and Abby!!

With so many candidates starting new jobs this month, either through me or not, I think this is a perfect time to discuss what you do now?! The first day(s) on the job can sometimes be very overwhelming, but important! These few days and first interactions could shape how you fit in to the culture throughout your career with this new company.

I don't know how I came across this website, but I love their articles, and this one is no different. BostInno discusses "New Job Etiquette" here and I think they make some terrific points. First and foremost, be polite and respectful- its not your "den"...yet. The rest of their tips come from basic manners I think: remember people's names and try to speak their language, be yourself, don't annoy everyone on your first day (be aware), and do the job you were hired to do.  Specifically something that may not cross everyone's mind is doing the job- that's why you're there! When you're new it is important to realize that it will take you longer to "get it" than everyone else that's been there and done that. That means, you'll probably benefit like crazy for coming in early and leaving late, and all the while, watching your peers to learn from their successful habits.

Here's to infinitely more successes for job seekers everywhere!!
Cheers!
